Here is a bump for you. Maybe someone in the know will have an answer for you.
This is a friend of mine. I spoke with him on the phone. He said he took it to a shop and was diagnosed with a bad injector and a couple bad glow plugs. No CEL. Fuel filter has been changed. He said it dies out like it is starved for fuel. I run a 7.3 and am not the familiar with the differences so I sent him here.

Im not sure what you used for additive(s), rescue 911 in the red bottle works well, change your fuel filters if you can and get it into a heated shop for about 2-3 hours, if no shop available take a torpedo heater and place it at the rear so it is blowing towards front, this may take several hours. My hope is that you dont have any damaged injectors as a result of the issue. If you are able to change filters then while you have the top one out put a little rescue 911 red bottle into the housing before you replace the cap. Good luck this is a PIA im sure.

Do you have a code scanner?
Does it restart "easily" after it sits for a bit? Do you have a way to check your fuel pressure? Have you checked your FICM voltage? There is a procedure for that in the 6.0 tech folder at the beginning of this forum. Do you know if your 04 has an 03 or 04 engine in it or the production date of your truck? An 04 engine will have a sensor in the top front of the passenger side valve cover.
Bad glow plugs are VERY uncommon on these engines (like cam sensors). I would like to know the injector code or codes. I'm thinking it's an injector leaking combustion into the fuel rail possibly.

The EXACT thing happened to mine yesterday. I just had it towed home last night and it sits in the driveway waiting for the NY weather to be bearable enough for me to get out and try and trouble shoot it. I have no where to get the big b@stard inside. Please keep us up to date and we'll share info. 2 heads are better than one.
