Who loves Purple Hornies!?!?!?
O.k so maybe I'm obsessed but it seems like to me I love to hear v8's. I am thinking of swapping out my Dynomax super turbo mufflers in for some purple hornies and was wondering if anyone has some. I have a 302 that's getting headers in a week. I like deep rich sound with no blatting and no rasping. I mean I want it louder than what is now. I'm sure the headers will help, but what about these glasspacks?
Thanks.
Thanks.

All glasspacks are blatty and raspy, because an engine is blatty and raspy. I like the way engines sound. That's why I love glasspacks. 24"+ packs aren't as bad, but it might not hurt to look into a larger-bodied glasspack-style muffler, like a dynomax ultraflow or a magnaflow. They'll still let the character through, but take the edge off a little better. You could also use flowmasters, but I really dislike them.

I just installed headers on my 400 with 2.5" pipe and a cheap set of Thrush 24" glasspacks. It has a very low note thats not to loud on acceleration but it will pop and cackel when you let off. I wanted to use turbo mufflers but coudlnt find any on short notice. Now I am glad I have the glasspacks. I agree the flowmasters have a odd sound that I dont like.

How about some Dynomax Race Bullets... similar to glasspacks but perforated instead of louvers. They come in two different lengths and in 2.5" and 3" inlet/outlets.
I ran one on my truck for a while... 18" case, 23" length overall. Sounded great but got a bit too loud (small town=complaints).

I think if you want to know how it will sound with glasspacks try this; When you get your headers on fire up the motor without any mufflers on. This is what a glasspack sounds like as far as pop, blatt, cackel ect the only thing a glasspack will do is change the volume. The shorter the muffler the louder, longer quieter.Pipe size will change the pitch, biger the pipe the lower the pitch. Glasspacks will sound like what your engine sounds like.

Most people like glasspacks because there are much cheaper....put an $80 price tag on them and then lets see who perfers them over a baffled muffler.
Everyone has a difference in taste when it comes to exhaust. Personally I think glasspacks only sound descent when you are really on er hard but when your not you hardly hardly hear them. I swear you hardly know a vehicle is running when it has glasspacks....seriously....compared to a baffled muffler which you hear when ever you touch the gas. Glasspacks are really only blappy and crack when you are on it hard and then just let off that is when she just pots and crackles.........full throttle from 3 and downshift to 2nd in town and you know what im talking about LOL.
Actually just recently we had a late 60's early 70's mustang with a 302 in the garage and it only had one glasspack and it sounded really really aggressive, i was really suprised.
Its all just a matter of preference.
