Question heater control

85 ford ranger 4x4 2.8v6 std cab long bed

The heater control in my truck worked only on high for months, and after driving it during the summer and not needing it, i just noticed today that it has stopped working at all. I got a replacment heater control (all the switches and buttons that go in the dash under the radio) and that didn't fix the problem What's next on the checklist? This is my winter vehicle, so heat is definately a required feature.

Thanks a ton

no, the blower (fan) isn't working. Is that to say that it needs to be replaced? Where do they hide it on the truck?

also, why would i be getting little bits of snow blowing in through the vent (last winter) when I'd turn the heat on for the first time?

Only running on high is usually a sign that the blower motor resistor assembly is corroded out. It is a cheap replacement, and is bolted into the fan housing. The fan is in the corner of the engine compartment, towards the passenger's side rear (at least it is on my 98). I would try replacing the resistor assembly before scrapping the entire motor. At least test it with 12V before you do.

As I mentioned, it is bolted into the blower motor housing in my 98 in the engine compartment. You should see a few wires going into a connector that plugs onto the resistor assembly. The assembly itself was held in by 2 screws.
