My ability to spin my trucks tires is directly proportional to how much I paid for them.

the reason you can burn them in reverse is because of gearing...in the olden days before horsepower was very high, cars used to have to go up hills in reverse. The transmission itself is regeared rather highly for reverse compared to 1st and 2nd gear. Btw, your power band doesn't really take off until about 2000-2500 rpm...that is why you can't get a burnout, if you don't like your tranny, put it in neutral and rev the motor to about 3000 rpm, then shift to drive. You'll kill the tranny after a few times of doing this, but you should get an impressive burnout

for anyone who hasn't yet been hopped to death, drive an f-150 with a stick and drop the clutch...mine will shudder so bad that I have had it knock the tranny out of gear before...ladders bars are in the mail though, hopefully the hopping dies

I meant the limited slip for a post above this one, the truck that wouldn't spin the tires had the limited slip rearend and I was pointing out that it would contribute greatly to traction and make it harder to spin the tires, I'm not sure why it came up as a reply to your guys post. Sorry for the confusion.

You're expecting way too much from that bronco. On dry pavement, most trucks won't break free from a standstill. Also, you're turning bigger rubber, and I assume it has a faily agressive tread. And the 302 isn't a real powerhouse to begin with, maybe 175hp.

Burnouts

The reason your truck burns out in reverse and not in first is because of weight transfer. Anyone that has burned out in a front wheel drive car knows that it'll burn out in first or second, but not in reverse. In fact, one time in my old Subaru(front wheel drive), I could not make it up a snowy hill going forward so I gave up and tried reverse! It worked.
If you can't burn out in your truck why not do an impressive donut? They're much cooler!
