Question AOD shifter conversion for 57-60 F100

Want to put an AOD in my '59 F100 panel which still has its 292 y-block and Ford-o-Matic. Have found all conversion kits/brackets EXCEPT for the shift lever. Any advice?

Ford-o-matic-AOD Swap - Gearshift lever

The Ford-o-matic gearshift has only two forward positions - AOD requires 4.

Hi

Why not just making sure that P,R,N and D (overdrive) are correct and don't worry about the rest.

One other thought you could cover or remove the original indicator and replace it with a aftermarket unit with markings that you want, IDIDIT has a stick on indicator for about $20.00 and Flaming River has a screw on unit for about $90.00 (looks nice).

I am sure you can get them from other dealers.

I'm with Chuck, this approach has proven successful on my truck. I am pretty sure that the non-electric trans has only three detents, you can not hold it out of od. It has been awhile since I did that, but I feel confident thats the case.
