Red face Y-Block Identification

Just got a 1955 F-100. The owner said that its previous owner had put in a 272. How can I tell? The manifold says it's a 239 (EBV). Is there a similar stamped SN on the block somewhere?

Unless I'm an idiot and am telling you the wrong spot, the block ID will be above the oil filter. Go to ford-y-block.com to get your info once you find the casting ID.

Sixoh has given you good info. The Y block family, 239, 272, 292, 312 use pretty much the same block, the exception being dearborn and cleveland 272 blocks. The EBV manifold will fit on later engines just fine. Look above the oil filter and also at the rear of the block on top between the heads, yo may see some stampings there.

Good luck
