SCRAPPAGE IS DEFEATED ON U.S. SENATE FLOOR !
Attention SEMA Action Network:
Thank you all for your hard work in opposing, and now defeating, the old car
scrappage provision in the Energy Policy Act of 2002 (Section 822 of S.
517).
In case you haven't heard the news, Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell's (R-CO)
amendment to eliminate scrappage from the legislation was - astonishingly
enough - passed by unanimous consent. In the end, even the principal
sponsor of the scrappage provision, Senator Jeff Bingaman (D-NM), was not
willing to oppose the Campbell amendment!
This is fantastic work, work that would not have been possible without the
literally thousands of phone calls, faxes, emails and letters to U.S.
Senators that SEMA Action Network vehicle clubs and individual enthusiasts
were able to muster. Hobbyist efforts were cited by Senator Campbell and
Senator Sam Brownback (R-KS) as a compelling force in defeating this
scrappage provision.
SEMA sincerely thanks everyone for their dedication, hard work, and
willingness to protect the vehicle hobby today and to preserve for it for
our children. This is an amazing victory and a testament to the powerful
connection between the specialty aftermarket automotive industry and the
American vehicle hobbyist community.
Job well done.

SCRAPPAGE IS DEFEATED ON U.S. SENATE FLOOR !
TO: Senator Benjamin Nighthawk
FROM: (yourname)
SUBJECT: The Scrappage Bill; NO WAY!!!
Dear Senator,
I would like to personally thank you for standing up for our national rights as private citizens and collectors of historically significant automobiles and other motor conveyances!
I want you to know personally from me, that you have made me believe once again in a nation where individuals are regarded as precious, non-replaceable things whose dreams and aspirations, and foothold in the history of our forefathers endeavors and enginuity are respected and preserved for all time...
You have saved a portion of our own heritage, though it may be mechanical in it's basic form - but which touches the heart and soul of every citizen who one day picked up a wrench and went on from there to come to love the freedom found in restoring the works of our grandfathers, and GREAT grandfathers before them
I cannot find words heart-felt enough to thank you...
GOD (However you concieve of it) BLESS YOU!
Sincerely,

If memory serves me correctly, this type of insane proposal re-surfaces every couple of years. The state of Hawaii almost passed a law that prohibits private sale of automobiles a few years back. It was barely defeated. NEVER turn your back on a libral.

SCRAPPAGE IS DEFEATED ON U.S. SENATE FLOOR !
That's good news! I was part of the force opposing another legislative decision recently; the Tauzin Dingell Telecommunications Bill. I along with thousands wrote to our congressmen and state reps and effectively stopped the bill twice. But it was brought back a third time, and unfortunately was passed. Is there anyway that the Scrappage Bill might return for another vote?
