6.0 Air Filter Change..?
Had my '03 6.0 SD in at dealership for a small adjustment the other day, and as it was about to turn 15k miles, decided to have them change the fuel filters the first time, while I watched. (Expensive lesson.. looks easy..)
I got to asking their premiere 'diesel guy' (looked to be about 19 years old) about changing the air filter. He told me it was "nearly impossible" for the average person and filters were only available at dealerships, and the filters were very expensive. He further stated that they had had several 6.0's turbos go out due to clogged and/or dirty air filters.
So - is the air filter change really that difficult ? If so, what makes it so hard?
Where else can you get the air filters without recieving a "motorcraft mugging" ?

Good priced filters for 6.0 psd & other engines
I would try www.filter1.com. They sell the 6.0 psd oil filters for under $12.00 & the airfilters for under $40.00. If you get a handfull of stuff, shipping is free & now tax.

It IS hard the way Ford tells you to do it
but there is a description somewhere in here that makes it easy.... do a search....
if you take the WHOLE assembly out instead of breaking it apart like Ford recomends it is easy to change the filter off the truck...
(and I have 33K+ on my stock filter and it's still flowing great ! )

Try this:
http://home.austin.rr.com/sbv1/Proce...irFilterRR.htm
That is the hard way. Try removing the MAF wire connector, disconnect the hose to the degas (coolant overflow) bottle. Loosen the clamp from the intake to the turbo. Loosen the two rearward clamps on the air filter. Lift out the intake from filter to turbo. Loosen two front clamps on filter. Lift out filter and front air inlet. Replace in reverse order. (Don't you just hate that last piece.). Good luck.
