New to this site & new F150 owner.
Bought a supercab F150XLT on August 6th have about 380miles on her. I traded a '98 conversion van in that had a 5.4, and the F150 has a 4.6. I tow a Ranger R83 I guess the weight at 3000 - 3500 lbs. The F150 has the tow package with a 3:55 limited slip the dealer assured me that the F150 would have no problem towing my boat. If I am right the '98 5.4 was rated 335HP and 300 ft lbs torque, and the 4.6 is rated 231HP and 293 ft lbs torque.

joebalfe, you're right, the 4.6 is rated at 231hp and 293 ft lbs torque. I have a truck just like yours, same engine. I think the max towing is 6,700 lbs.
If your vehicle is not quipped with a heavy-duty trailer package, the maximum weight your vehicle can tow is limited to 5,000 lbs. (from the manual)
Congrats on your new truck... I've had mine for 3 weeks and I love it. What color did u get?

Welcome and congrats, joeb!
I have just over 10,000 miles on my 04 and am just lovin' it every day.
My F150 XLT SCab 5.4L in Dark Shadow Gray came with the trailer tow package and limited slip 3.55, I bought it off the lot.
Although I probably will not tow anything I, like most Texans, love the idea of "heavy duty" everything. The added HD battery, radiator and transmission oil cooler are worth it during the summer months when we're just trying to get through the traffic.
Since 90% of the rated torque is delivered at 1,000 rpm, you should have a smooth ride.
No, I'm not a truck sales guy, just a guy that liked his first Ford truck, a '94, and loves the 04. Hope you have as much fun as I have had.
Any chance that you could post a pic of the truck and the tow?

Pictures?
I think I can post some pictures of the truck and boat. The boat is rasberry and red, so no match as far as colors. When I get ready for my next tournment in September I will take some pictures and post them. This is my first Ford pickup since '79 and only my fourth Ford since then, but a bunch of chevy's and a couple of Dodge Trucks and Vans.
