what tranny do i have in my 1990 f150?

hey guys, i have a 1990 f150, it is 2wd with the 302 engine.
did those come with E4OD transmissions? or was it just the AOD? or both?
Is there a way to visually tell the 2 apart?

Does it have a button to turn O/D off or is it on the shifter? If it has a button, it is the E4OD.

no button, you have to manually shift it into OD.

In 1990 I know the e40d was on the 5.8's I'm not sure on th 5.0. the E40D is a huge tranny has to be about 5 feet or more with 4 or 5 electical conections long the sides of the transmission.
to clear up the overdrive button issue the 1987-1991 trucks you had to select overdrive (even on a E40d transmission) on 1992-up for overdrive you just push the button on the shifter.

What does the label on the driver's door say under "TRANS"? E=E4OD, T=AOD

It's probably an AOD. My '90 F150 has one, and I think in that timeframe, the E4OD was only in the heavy duty trucks.

you are most likely right. I worked on a '90 f150 with an e40d and i think there is a overdrive switch on the dashboard around were the 4x4 button would be. My bad yall
