V10 Miss under load 1100-2000 RPM 122K Mi

I need some troubleshooting help. My 2000 V10 is starting to miss only under a load and between 1100 and 2000 RPM. The problem is worse during hot weather. I suspect a weak coil but I am not sure how to test them.

I changed the spark plugs at 105K Mi and all was ok. The problem started at 115K Mi and has steadily gotton worse.

2000 F250 V10 5-Speed 122K Mi, All Stock

Thanks in advance for any help you may have.

Dean

It does sound like a coil.

The best way to find out which one(s) it is, is to go the the dealer and have them do a drivability test with a world-wide diagnostic tester (WDS).

Your system will not throw a code unless the coil fails completely.

BTW - welcome to FTE!

Before you spend the bucks on a new coil I would check the hose that goes from your PCV Valve to the Throttle Body. My truck was acting up and seemed like it was missing under load and sometimes just empty. Open up the hood to take a look with the engine running and you could hear the air coming from the trottle body. Moved the cover and you could see the crack in the elbow coming from the trottle body. Just replaced it last night and all is well.

I have to vote for the coil-pack. Mine was breaking down at full throttle only. Yes, it did throw a code, but only the diagnostics at Ford revealed it. No engine light. That was at 167k miles........

I vote for coil pack as well, since i had the same problem. The dealer had to "warm" the vehicle up to get it to do what i was telling them. Pretty quick fix, and if your paying out of warranty then expect about a $100 bill or just a little less.

I'd also say to recheck the torque on the plugs just in case one is working loose.

Thanks for the great advice!

Thanks for the great advice guys. I will try these things and let you know how it goes. I just had a repair shop check for error codes and there were none. I suspect that it may have to get worse before it throws a code.
