98 Ford Explorer (sport) Center armrest

Good Day

My Center armrest on my explorer flips up and down so you can get into the center compartment. Attached to the backside of the armrest is a dual cup holder that you pull out so the back seat riders can use it. The problem starts when you go to lift the armrest if the cup holder is out even by a 1/2 of inch, it locks it and if you force it up, it will break. And the cup holder always slides out on its on and you always have to make sure its in before you lift the armrest. Well someone I guess pulled it up and now, it needs repairs. The cup holder won't stay in at all and the armrest when put down keeps going down. The question, Can this be taken apart and fixed or does it need to be replaced entirely?

Thanx
Margaret

My center armrest is the same model, and has been broken off pretty much right after I got it....

if you get any more information on that, could you let me know what you find out?

Thanks.:-staun

You can tell that this is a common problem because every Ford truck in the scrapyards I have checked ALL are missing the centre armrests. Mechanic at the dealership told me that this problem went back to his early model Ranger. You'd think "The Better Idea" people at Ford would do something about this. Buying a new one is out of the question ($300.00+ Canadian) so I attmepted to fix it with Epoxy...worked great for 24 hours. Anybody else got an idea I'd be happy to try it...until then I will continue to search the scrappers.
