Foggy headlights

I remember reading on a thread in here about something to clean the inside of the Headlights to make them clearer. If someone can point me to that thread or give any advice I sure could use it. I just failed the Virginia state safety inspection partly because of the bulbs. The inspector actually found a nick in my break line. I guess those inspections are not as useless as I thought.

Thanks
Doug

The results of polishing are temporary; the lenses come from the factory with some kind of anti-UV coating that gradually wears off. When it does wear off, the lenses get foggy from the radiation of the Sun and heat from the the light. The first time you polish it, you remove whatever is left, so it will fog up even faster later. Eventually the plastic itself turns yellow and foggy throughout, and polishing the surface will no longer clean them up.

As someone said, this problem never happened with good old glass bulbs.

IT WORKED!!!! I went to my favorite parts store looking for some of the products that was reccommended and the guy there told me that it was the solvent in those chemicals that will take off a smal layer of the plastic. I am not sure if that is true but it sounded reasonable to me. He reccomended using Brass-O since it was cheap and had a strong solvent. All I can say is the results wre perfect. One other thing I figured out by trial and error was that it was a waste of time to do the inside. All I needed to do was the outside of the lens.

I got rid of my POS composite headlights, and retrofitted buckets for conventional sealed beams.

Passes inspection, no prob. Go to the dealer, order buckets and trim rings from an older aerostar, and they bolt right in. Then you can put aftermarket halogen replacements in, and use high output H4 bulbs.

What a difference! Especially for us old farts with old eyes.
