Newbie F3 questions

I'll try to get all my newbie questions out of the way with one post. I'm buying a 48 F3 for my next project, my intent is a mild streetrod/tow vehicle. I've only seen pictures of the vehicle and there don't seem to be a ton of details avaliable on the internet - or I can't find them.

1) Is the F3 spring under or spring over in stock form?
2) What is the width of the front and rear leafs?
3) Where is the steering box mounted?
4) What is the length of the box and how much shorter is a F1 box?
5) What type of axle is the stock rear axle?

I plan to build a new front axle using 8 bolt dana 44 outers and some DOM which gets me large disc brakes and plenty of strength. The rear would most likely recieve a stock Dana 60 from an F250. The larger part of the project is shortening the bed and extending the cab so the kids have a place to sit. Wheelbase will remain the same.

Thanks

Chuck P

1) Is the F3 spring under or spring over in stock form?

The F-3 springs sit on top of the axle.

2) What is the width of the front and rear leafs?

The Front is 1.75" and the Rear is 2.25".

3) Where is the steering box mounted?

It is mounted behind the front axle in the way of some headers.

4) What is the length of the box and how much shorter is a F1 box?

The F-3 box is 8 feet and the F-1 box is 6 1/2 feet.

5) What type of axle is the stock rear axle?

It's a Timkin Split Housing Spiral Bevel. Most likly with a 4.86 ratio.

Thanks, pretty much what I was hoping for except the steering. Sounds like the same sort of box that a Scout has.

Last question until after I retreive the truck. Where is the best place to sell off the un-needed parts? Being a ****** guy, I don't throw anything away from vehicles this old. I'll be getting rid of the motor, trans and rear axle.

Thanks

Old Jeep,

I'm still a few posts short of being able to send you an email containing my address. Keep watching this thread and we'll eventually get there.

Unfortunately my F3 purchase has fallen through. So I'm back in the process of trying to find a 48-55 3/4 or 1 ton for my project.
