Looks like I get the chance to go visit our neighbors to the north. My wife won a September trip for the two of us to Banff and we are both looking forward to it. She could have chosen La$ Vega$, but we figured, heck, we can always go there--now, Canada, that's something ya don't do every day. Fly into Calgary on the 11th, back home on the 14th. Mil1ion--what's the weather like around your neck of the woods in September, so we have some idea how to pack?
Banff is beautiful! I haven't been there in years but the last trip there was beautiful. I gave up on going to Canada after they tore my entire car apart at the border last time. Guess I must look like a drug smuggler or something . . . everytime I went up they'd do this. Get out of my car, they search me, they search my car, pull the door panels off, go through my luggage. I'm only 2 hours from the border so we used to make a regular trip of it. But if you've got a flight that would be awesome!
Banff is REAL nice. A truly beautiful town. Went there 2 years ago to pick up a car my dad bought and I would love to back again. You'll love it! Have fun!
Take your hiking boots; there's some awesome dayhiking trails around there. Don't miss Lake Louise. Stay at the Chateau if you can afford it. Resist the temptation to write REDRUM on the walls of your room.
I'd guess that there is at least some chance of snow by mid September, so bring some warm but light clothes just in case.
Don't feed the elk or bears.
We signed up for a half-day Lake Minnewanka boat cruise and a full-day trip to Columbia Icefields. Looks like there's a lot to do but we only have two full days.
We're staying at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel. Looks like a spectacular place from the pictures, inside and out.
