Chalk up another for the 4.2...
Hello Everyone..
Just had a race with a friend of mine, figured you all might be interested in the results.. Well for one, I own a stock 2001 F-150 Supercab with the 4.2L and 5spd. I have no engine mods what so ever. The vehicle I went up against was my friends g/f's Dodge Dakota 4x4 Sport extended cab with the V-8 automatic. My friend has been ragging me on, saying he can beat me whenever and where ever with it. We were out on a completely open rode down here.. We both turned the corner, he had a running start. he hammered it down. I took off after him riding right behind him. Wasnt even working my truck hard, but his was straining to keep the lead. I let him get a further lead on because we were coming up to an area where I was very familiar with, and figured i might want to back it down just a tad.. got passed the area, caught right back up to him. doin about 85 in 4th gear.. went for my pass to overtake him, he started changin lanes to keep me behind him. I cut over hard and around 90mph, grabbed 5th gear, and all he was seeing was tail lights :-). Dont know how I did it with my truck, but I won lol. Interesting race none the less. BUT, given the two vehicles, who would yall have thought would win before we went at it??? just curious.

It was a 2000 Dakota Extended cab 4x4. As for the shift points for racing, nope, sure dont. 99% of the time this is a work truck/personal use truck. First time I ever raced it. Dont plan on doing a lot of it. I just done it this one time to shut him up for once. lol. Usual shifting for me is in 5th gear by 55mph. I keep my RPM's low. less taxing on the engine. Hardly ever do I have the RPM's higher than 3000. As for the Dakota being lighter, not sure on its exact weight. but I know my gross weight is right at 6000lbs, and im sure his is lower by at least 1000lbs. Which just adds to the wonder at why I won. lol. Thanks though.

Actaully I can't shift my truck at 85-90, without it trying to grind..whats funny is it used to do it in third, it moved up to fourth..hmmmm..any additive I can add to make it smoother...I just changed it, but I don't like how thin automatic fluid is...Is there something thicker I could use?
