Bed caps and stake pocket holes

Bed caps and stake pocket holes
I put a pair of bed caps on today (great for covering up dents and dings, wish the previous owner had thought of it), but the only ones I could get for the rig did not have the stake pockets cut out. I figure a steady hand, a strait edge, and a dremel tool might help me remedy this, but I've never really done anything like this. Anyone ever done this, or have any ideas? I hate to go cutting holes in the thing and not have it all line up right.

Pull off the caps, mark the inside of the bedrail exactly where the pockets start and end. Eyeball the distance of the pocket outwards and then cut a smaller hole than you need in the caps and just slowly dremel out until you get the right size hole. Slow process, but will work if you are patient!
Or maybe, smear Vaseline on the bottom sides of the caps all around the stake pocket area, reinstall the bedcaps, pick them STRAIGHT up off the bed and you will have a mirror image of the holes showing you where to cut. Messy but effective!
