Angry Loss of power in low gears

I need some help here. This is the first truck I have owned and I am at a loss. I seem to lose power if I put the truck in 2nd or 1st gear. Is this normal? I would say it is about 20% power and I can tell by shifting into drive while hitting the gass. the truck at that time will increase speed as if I had hit the gass harder.Any help would be greatly appreciated. I love the truck, but am beginning to wonder about the 300hp. It can't all be there!

I'm pretty sure that's happening because of the way Ford tuned the truck to not jerk around in low gears. It does that on mine and it does it on other people's truck. I've heard others talk about this. However, it you step on the gas, you'll find that it still has the power. It just takes more pushing on the pedal to get 'er going. It's different...that's for sure.

Hi EVERYBODY.....

What you are experiencing is 100% NORMAL. When you put the transmission selector on "2".....and accelerate from a dead stop, you are actually starting out in 2nd gear, and NOT 1st gear (with "designed in" REDUCED power and acceleration capabilities). The owner's manual that came with your truck explains this as a way to accelerate "gently" in a higher gear to get better traction control on slippery surfaces, like packed snow or ice.

With the transmission selector in "D" or "1", you will ALWAYS start out in 1st gear, and get maximum acceleration. And once your truck is completely broken in, it will feel like it has 300 HP (or more) when you nail the "go" pedal...

This does NOT have anything to do with how Ford "tuned the truck to not jerk around in low gears".

Hope this information is helpful.

Thanks for the reply. I appreciate the explination and the info you have provided. My truck should be more than broken in as I have over 7,000 miles on it now. I was one of the first to get it in the Tampabay (Florida) area. As I stated prior this is the first truck I have ownd and I may have to get use to the feel of 300hp with such a heavy truck. I am use to sports cars, so with 300hp you really feel it. Oh well... I love the truck and dont think I'll ever buy anything else.

On the HP topic do you suggest any mods that will not void the warranty and provide a little more kick?
