Question '53 dashboard

I'm fixing up my truck. I'd like to do the dash as stock as possible. I am aware that a starter button was located on the dash in some (if not all) models. Mine's always started using the keyed ignition switch. Which way is stock?

1955 was the last year for a starter push button switch. In 56 , they went to the present day style of starting a vehicle thru the ignition switch. So, to answer your question, yes, you should have a push button.

Thanks. Now, to do this dashboard up stock (or close to stock) should I just move the starter wire off the switch I have and run it over to the starter button, or can I find an ignition switch that doesn't have the capacity to engage tha starter?
