what will fit in a 56
#2
Any engine you want can be fitted in your truck, it all depends on how much fabrication you want to do and/or how much money you have to spend. I have had a 390 in my 56 and now I have a 460. The original engines were straight 6's and the Y-blocks, 292 probably is the most common Y-block. Good luck.

That's correct - the y-blocks will bolt in easily with a front of engine mount and then two mounts on the bellhousing. Send your VIN number and I'll tell you what was the original. I'm betting on a 272. Also, what are your plans - original or not so original - what is the truck going to be primarily used for? Do you know what it has in it now? What tranny does it have now as well?

i will not have the vin until monday, well im planning on shaving the dash and raking the suspetion, and putting in a custom interior, the truck is just going to be a daily driver/show, but mostly daily driver. i dont have any idea if its auto or maunal, or what size of engine it has, all i can tell you about the truck is it has 4 rear wheels. maybe a 3/4 ton???? also can this be made into a hot rod, b/c my buddies tell me a "dullie" wont look right, but i dont wanna spend a lot of money, b/c beging in the 10 grade and just turning 16, and my 2nd car, i just need something reliable, cheap, good on gas, and could keep up on the highway.

well i dont have a tranny for a s/b/f but i have the tranny and engine that came in it, i also have a 460/c6 that came out of 68 lincion, and a c6 taht came out of a truck that had a fe. im just going to go with one of these and just build it stock. (my 64 galaxie has a 390 and tri-power) so i guess anything will have better gas milage??? but do they make a engine crossmember/ tanny mount that i can bolt or weld in. or will a crossmember out of a 69 pickup work in my 56???? i know i have to cut and weld it, but will it work???
