Smile Paint faded on rear window trim.

The paint on the trim around the rear window of my 97 F-150 has faded to a real dull gray color. My truck is black so it really stands out and looks terrible. I know the trim usually matches the color of the bed rails, but they have retained there original color. I want to paint it but i'm not sure what kind of paint to use so that it will bond good with the platic trim. Any suggestions? Thanks!

There is a paint out there made for bumpers and trim that come in black and if I remember right, it works on plastic as well (but don't hold me to that).

That part is not supposed to be painted. With that said, when they rebuilt mine they painted it white. That was 5 years ago and it still looks good.

It looks really nice when its painted body color. Regular automotive paint will work just fine, just got to prep the surface the right way. Get all the dirt and stuff off it with a degreaser then prime it and paint it. It would be easier to do if you take it off, but not sure how much trouble that is.

I have the same problem with my 97. I'm not going to try the paint fix myself. I live in the Maryland area an need a good place to have my 97 truck trim painted. Any advice or suggestions?
Thanks

I was beginning to think I was the only one. I check every F-150 I see, and none of them seem to have the same problem. Thanks for the advice. I’m going to attempt to paint it myself, low on cash$$$.

My 97 is faded also.I read in another truck forum that rubbing compound would bring the black back.6 months ago I did a small spot on mine and to this day it is still black. I have not finished due to how hard it was just to do that one spot.I'm still considering having it painted Satin Black.

I have a 1998 and the same thing. I was thinking about using that new Krylon paint for plastic. If I get around to it I will post the results.
