What is stock exhaust for '53 239 V8

I'm confused (again) about my truck - a sorta '53 F100 that I'm trying to return to stock. It has a 239 flathead with Mercury heads and intake manifold. The exhaust manifolds are currently set up for dual exhaust but the passenger side manifold is cracked. I have a replacement that looks the same, so no problem there.

But pictures that I've seen show the driver's side exhaust manifold connecting via a C shaped pipe to the passenger's side (near the front) and a single exhaust exiting the passenger side near the startter.

What is start.

I'm not sure about the '53, but '48-'52 routed the exhaust like the picture you described. As far as I know, no engine was fitted with dual exhaust from factory for one simple reason - cost. And Henry was thrifty.

There were several creative solutions used by farmers and hotrodders over the years in order to run dual pipes.
