Looking to trade Lariat tires and wheels.

I'm looking to trade my 18" Lariat wheels with tires (BFGoodrich - 275/65R18) with under 700 miles on them. I would like to trade them for a set of the 17's that come standard on FX4's. My tires and wheels are immaculate except for the 6xx miles wear on the tires.

This is what I'm looking for.
17" Machined Aluminum Wheel (FX4)
Here's a picture:

The tires need to be in decent condition and the wheels need to be in excellent condition. Preferrably someone within close driving distance to Detroit area. Your tires/wheels + $200 for mine. I could also include a pair of Ford OEM Lariat side emblems. The ones that say "F-150 / LARIAT 5.4 TRITON"

When I do eventually get my Lariat, I also will be trading the 18's for 17's. And I won't want any money in the exchange. I like the smaller tires because they give a more comfortable ride and better handling. Some people like the 18's for the "tall" look.

Those look sharp. I wonder if they make the same style for 4x2 trucks. Anyone know?

Thank you for that information. When and if you ever get one someone will get a great trade.

How do 17s give you better handling?
It would seem that the less sidewall you have (bigger rims, lower profile tires), the the better response you would have. Otherwise, cars would still have 12" rims like they used to! lol Once agian, my logic here could by way flawed, but neway...

I wouldn't think you'll notice much (if any) improved ride quality with 17s. I mean, there is still a LOT of sidewall even with the 18s! And the added weight of the 18s is pretty insignificant. I personally think your going through a lot of trouble for little benefit! Unless, of course, you also really need that extra 500lbs of payload capacity!

ieee - your right, you do not get better handling out of smaller wheels - just better ride.

The only reason I want 17's is for more tire size selection.

I read an article in Jan 04 Consumer reports. They are pretty unbiased. They came to the conclusion that 17" tires give you a better ride and handling than 18" tires. Surely I'm no expert and the subject is open to debate.

Was it an article on large-diameter truck tires or passenger vehicles? For passenger cars the difference is VERY noticeable! However, on the large 'truck' tires there is so much sidewall you can barely feel the diff between the two. I bet if you blindfolded someone, crammed them into a truck, removed the blindfold and let 'em drive a truck with 18s, then did the same with a truck that has 17s, about ½ of the folks wouldn't be able to tell which was what!

I believe the article included both trucks and passenger cars. And I think it also said the car would be more noticeable. I myself have driven the XLT with 17" and on the same day drove the Lariat with the 18". I did not notice much handling difference but the 18" was slightly more choppy ride. But I also agree 1/2 the people driving in it would not notice much of a difference.
