Question 2.5 and 2.3 are the blocks the same

Can i take the parts from my 2.5 motor and put them in a 2.3 block and make another 2.5, or is there a difference in the blocks?

I want to say yes, that they are the same block. I believe that the 2.5 is just a stroked 2.3. I could be wrong, but somebody else on here will correct me.

I have heard that to, but I am mechanicaly inclined and don't even really know what a stroked motor is. I think it just means the rods are longer, right?

the 2.5 is pretty much a stroked 2.3 except for the fact that the blocks are different the crank journal diameters are smaller on the 2.5 and i belive there are a couple other differences

Just give it a little time and somebody with more knowledge on the subject will get back to you, like Ken00, or Rockledge they both know their stuff really well. You might also try posting down in the engine forum (4 banger forum, and even the engine swap forum).

Alright, I really appreciate all of your help. I was really hoping that it would work but i guess that i will have to buy a new motor anyway. Although, I have access to a 2.3 complete motor out of a mid 80's mustang. Will that work in my 98 truck? If so, can i use my bolt ons from my 2.5.

i always thought a neat 4-cyl swap would be the 2.3 from the thunderbird turbo coupe. dont know how well it would work in a truck though. the mustang 2.3 should work.

If you have access to a 2.3, then personally, I say just go ahead and use it, thats what my Ranger is. Do you know if it is turbo'ed? If it's turbo'ed, than and it's all in decent condition, rebuild and use it. Yes, it should bolt right in to your truck as I think that all the Ford 4bangers have mounts in the same place. Yes, you will need the computer out of that Mustang (or one just like it). And I would imagine that you could use the bolt on's, as I still think that they are infact the same motor.

I am pretty sure the 2.5L is a 2.3L that was bored out and stroked. What I'd like to know is if you can take the DOHC head from a 2.3 and put it on a 2.5?
