Vehicle Transport

This is my first post. Partially an introduction and part a question that I may find an answer to by searching the archives. I need to get my grandfather’s old 71 Ford pickup from Paris TX to the north Atlanta area. My parents have had the truck for the past 20+ years since my grandfather died but it hasn’t been driven more than a few miles a year for the past 10. I’ve been telling them I wanted it for years... I was very excited to hear recently that my dad was ready to let it go. I’m afraid to fly out and drive it back so far since they aren’t living there at the moment and it’s been driven so rarely, even though I believe it to be in good mechanical shape. It’s still wearing the original (though now faded) blue paint and has a 360 under the hood and a 3 speed on the column. A little rust here and there but basically a solid straight body. Mostly just lots of fishing trips and memories in that old truck.
Can any of you recommend a good transport company and give me an idea on cost? I’ve seen several companies on the web but prefer to go with a company I’ve heard something about. It doesn’t need to be in an enclosed vehicle since it’s hardly of show status. Would probably be best that they pick it up at my parents house instead of having to take the truck to them. It will run but would rather get it road ready after it gets to me.
Thanks for the help. I've already pulled a lot of good info since finding this site a few weeks ago after learning I was finally going to get hold of the old "blue goose".

I used AAction Movers recently. I think they do world wide. They happened to be the cheapest too. From San Jose area to Seattle was around six bills. If I remember, that is about 750miles.

been there, done that.

Check out DASautoshipping.com. they have a few diff't rates if you're willing to drive to one of their terminals and free online quotes.

A word to the wise. don't go with anyone who brokers the shipping unless you're willing to wait 2-3 months. The brokers go out and look for the cheapest sub that will ship. I wasted a month waiting to hear back from a couple brokers, and finally ended up back with DAS.

DAS has their own trucks, etc. I shipped my '70 Bronco from cincinnati to the DC area for $475. an added bonus, you can track online...hope this helps!

Yeah, I got a quote from DAS. They are rather high in comparison to the others I have quotes from so far. Going from their terminals is reasonable but that is a long way from the it's current home in TX and I don't want my parents to have to go to the inconvenience.
I got a very low quote for door-to-door from Specialty Mobile Systems - Auto Transport Specialist, actually about 1/2 the cost of DAS. Has anyone here used them before? The low bid always scares me but they were ranked number one on one of the transport review sites. Thanks
