'94 Lightning

I'm wondering if anyone has installed a Bassani Off-road H-pipe without cats on their Gen I Lightning. If you have, will I need a chip to correct the O2 sensor reading? If anyone has one of these pipes for sale I'd be interested too. Thanks.

The 02 sensor is only a problem if you have OBD-II which you don't. That OBD-II has two 02 sensors, one before and after the cat. Since the 02 sensor is before the cat on the OBD-I trucks, removing the cat has no effect. I still highly recommend not removing a cat, as it doesn't gain much power (you can also get high-flowing cats for 60 bucks) and pollutes the air.

Thanks Mustang. I'm of the same opinion that the O2 sensor shouldn't be able to tell a difference, but I've heard of folks having problems with these trucks after removing the cats.

As far as removing the cats go, South Carolina doesn't have vehicle inspections, so I'm not really worried about it. I have an 84 F-150 with a 302 and essentially the same exhaust setup, and man it sounds a hundred times better with no cats.

Just because there are no vehicle inspections, doesn't mean it isn't illegal. You should keep your cats on there, the government has clamped down on us enough, don't give them more reasons to do worse.

Well...driving in the left lane unless you're gonna pass is illegal too, but I don't see many folks getting busted for that. Besides...I'm a law abiding citizen almost everyway I know how, I've even refrained from drinking while in college til I'm 21 (also because I'd lose my scholarship), so no cats will be my little rebellion.
