I am looking for info on converting my 90 F250 to a dump bed.
Anyone have any insite into this, I have seen the kit in the
Norther Catalog. Looking for other options before making a
decision?

I was watching one episode of "Trucks" on TNT and they installed a kit that utilized an airbag to push the stock bed up that was now hinged. It looked completely stock until you pushed the button. I forget the manufacturer that made the product but it looked well made.

i was thinking of this too for my '91 F250. but i don't do enough hauling to "talk the wife into it". my Brother in law had one on his last two GMC trucks, same unit just transfered to the new truck. the unit was hydraulic, not air bag powered. Know that you will probably have to tilt your bed to fill your fuel tank. my brother in law always had to. it's fun to see all the heads turning when your filling up or at the dump.

That's slick. Is that a giant airbag that fills up? How long does it take to get to full tilt? What's the cost on that thing?

i believe it uses engine exhaust to fill the airbag. don't know that cost. it should be on the web site.

You can still only haul what ever your truck is rated at, minus the weight of the mechanism you use to lift the bed. I was considering this also, but ended up going with a dump trailer. (6'Wx12'Lx2.5'D, double axle) Trailer is rated at 12,000lbs, but had a hydraulic cylinder itself put in that would dump 12,000lbs so I couldn't overload it. Great for hauling and dumping heavy loads, and it's only 40 bucks a year for the tags. I can put a 35 square roof in it and it dumps just fine. I did build 4ft extensions for the sides for when I'm hauling bulk, and not just weight. (wood shake shingles)
Some welders around her got tickets because their rigs were over weight with the welders and steel beds and equipment on their one ton or 3/4 ton trucks.
I guess it all depends on what you want to do with it.
