Anybody weigh your truck at a CAT Scale?

The curb weight of my truck is not listed in the owner's manual, and it's not on the website either. So I have no clue how much my truck weighs, and therefore I don't know how much of a load I can put in the bed. Has anyone here ever gone to a truck stop and weighed your pickup on a CAT Scale? Are you allowed to do that?

You should be allowed to go to a CAT scale. Pay the money and they will let you weigh. You can also go to any other location such as a feed mill, stone quarry, landfill, etc. where commodities are sold or prices charged per weight. Follow the dump trucks. Usually there is a nominal fee of $1 to $7 for each time you pull on the scale. You will get a weigh slip showing the weight of the truck. You may want to have full gas tanks and all your normal equipment, and yourself in the vehicle to get you highest "lightweight" or "tare weight".

I've weighed at a Flying J truck stop before. No problems at all.

Yup, I did paid $8 at a CAT scale twice (once for just the truck, and once with truck & 5th wheel in tow).
F-250 CC V-10 4X4 ~7100lbs (I don't have the paperwork in front of me)
My Cougar 281EFS 5th wheel came out to ~8500lbs

Your Ranger 4x4 SC should have a curb weight of less than 3500lbs. Here in California, it is listed as unladen weight on the registration card.

Even if the manual had ta weight it is a standard option package assuming 150lb driver and 1/2 tank. You will need to weight the vehicle full tank and gear/people to find out what your towing capacity is. Make sure you add tongue weight to your vehicle weight (should be at or below GVWR) before subtracting from the GCVWR (gross combined weight rating). This will give you your towing capacity.

I took my F-350 down to the local Cat Scale for a gross weight a few months ago. Only problem that I had was reaching the call button, had to stand on the end of a tie down bolt. Then the weigh master couldn't see the truck in the camera and I had to explain that I indeed was there. Cost was $8.00 and the truck weighed 6640# w/full fuel (40gal), tools, hitches, and driver/pass.

That's a good point 001-F Dorf! When going to truck stop scales, it's often necessary to have a CB radio to call the scale attendant.

Not all truck stops are equiped for that.

If it is a CAT scale then you will have to use the push button call box that was explained above.

If you go to a Flying J scale then you will have to have a CB tuned to channel 1 to call the scale master or leave your truck parked on the scale & run inside to let them know you are there.

My 250 PSD Crew Cab SB with no passeners and 29 Gal of fuel weighed out at 7150# on a truck scale. You have to be aware that the published weight in the company literature may not be for your truck especially if it is a deisel. The scale is the only way to find out what you have for payload. The payload is on the door piller as GVWR and on a 250 that is 8800# less the 7150# for the truck and you have a pay load of 1650#. Take away for passengers and any other weight and you will have what is left for you to load in the back.
