Exclamation 2004 Mazda B3000 Dual Sport gas mileage

Just bought a new B3000, 3.0 v6. My 1st tank only got 17 MPG, with considerable interstate. 2nd tank was 17.3. The sticker says 18 - 22, and I was hoping to get more than my trade-in 99 silverado. Is this to be expected with a new engine? Will it get better after break-in?

What kind of mileage is everyone else getting?

I once had a 91 ranger, 4.0 that got 20 around town, and 25 on the interstate. But I know this is a different engine...

It also has a small issue which I will get checked out soon. Every once in a while when I put it in park, the revs go up then down, and about every third time it does this the engine dies. Of course, since I'm parking it, its not a major thing, but maybe the gas mileage is related.

Thanks

R Mumford

That seems really low to me. I would be very disappointed with only 17 mpg. My 94 3.0 Supercab 4x2 gets 25+ on the highway. It gets only about 15 in town. Like you say a big truck can get that mileage. You need to have the dealer check that.

Thanks

Thanks, Delta. Thats exactly what I did, of course they didn't find anything. The mechanic did clear the computer data, and when he test drove it with his diag computer hooked up, he said it was getting 22.8 mpg.

I guess we'll see. I'll drive it a while and see what it does.
