Milage/performance
I have a 99 F 250 XLT, crewcab, 4x4 swb with CA 4 sp auto (w OD), the 5.4 L v-8 and 3.73 gears and love it. What a GREAT truck. Nicest I've ever owned. I'm getting about 10-12 MPG city and 15-16 hiway. I'm suffering from buyers remorse and wondering if I should have gotten the 4.30 gears (the only other optional gear ratio). I find that I'm in 2nd and 3rd gear most of the time when driving in town on small/moderate hills.
Anyone with a 4x4 and 4.30 gears with same engine care to share your milage experience with me? (I know driving habits are different, but I GOTTA KNOW, it's bugging me).

I traded in an Expedition 4 x 4 with a 5.4 because I was getting 10.2 mpg combined city/highway and towing a 5000 lb boat/trailer/family package I was getting around 6 mpg on the freeway. With the trailer on I was always in 3rd and rarely did the truck make it into overdrive. That meant I was stopping for gas every 200 miles.
With my new F350 PSD 4 x 4 with 4.10 and without the overdrive from US Gear I'm thinking of and a 38 gallon tank instead of 32 in the Expedition, I'm covering 450 plus with ease.
My (leadfoot) wife drives a 4 x 2 Expedition with a Superchip and that truck hangs onto overdrive and therefore mileage improves considerably on the highway at 70. Maybe 300 miles to the tank. However, around town, the truck is like a racecar and she love to prove it. I figure that she has 290 horses and blows the doors off the new Navigator 4 x 4 my neighbor has.Considerably less weight and only 10 horses less than he. Man, is he upset!
My buddy has the V10 in an F250SD 4 x 4 and gets 6 mpg towing my trailer. The ohc motors are gas hogs.
I'm a Powerstroke convert.
