'56 f-100 license plate location?

Need to find a new location. I have it in the stock location, which puts it behind the bumper.

I was thinking of putting it in my back window, but then it won't be lighted.

Where did you guys put yours?

My truck originally did not have a bumper so I never realized that untill I put a bumper on it after my restoration. The stock local is wierd as it is partially behind the bumper. I moved mine as far as I could with the elongated holes to the left.
But who cares, so the cops can't get a clear view of my plate as I speed away from them! ha-ha!
There are new bumper supports that make the bumper fit higher and snugger to the body. I know Mid-Fifty sells them. But I think it is one of the neat quirks about these trucks!!!

I wasn't happy with the stock location either. I was always hitting my knee on it as I was walking around the truck. So, I moved it to the middle of the bed. I bought a license plate cover equipped with a light and wired it to the running lights. ($25) Check out my gallery and see what you think. Good luck, John

good lookin trucks.
I'm kinda past the days of runnin from the cops, and don't really need a reason for them to pull me over. (and yes I have done some runnin, and it's much faster now)

My bumper is raised and tucked in, so there's no room to do as you did John. I was thinking of hanging it below the bumper, but I'd like to protect it. It's a Black and Yellow plate from the late 50's and in good shape.

Wow, tough decision. How do you feel about mounting it right to the rear bumper, like the plate on the front is mounted? But, that would crumple it if you ever bumped into something. On a side note, I have never known anybody to get pulled over for this since it is a stock location. How about starting a new post with that question as a title? Maybe having the plate in the stock location is worth the risk? Good luck John

Some old guy at a car show told me it happened to him in the same town.

Don't want to mount it like the front, that's how it disapered. Crushed, rusted, then bye bye.
Sometimes it takes a while for these guys to read all the topics, I'll have to wait patiantly.

Mine hangs from the drivers side taillight, I guess the tail lights have been raised? It does not go behind the bumber at all, thought that was the orig location?

Hi, I moved my plate to the middle below the tail gate. I think it looks better than hanging from the tail light. Also installed new tail lights that have no light/window for the plate in the bottom. Picture in my gallery, Bob

On mine, it's hanging below the bumper... But if you want to protect you license plate that's not a good location at all, specially if you use something to cover your truck. My car cover always gets caught on it.

Here's a link to the picture if you want to see it. It's in my gallery.

Best regards,

Almost 80K miles and have never been hassled over the stock location. I have been hassled about the blue dot tail lights...
