92 f150 clutch/starting

allright, here goes...my f150 won't start, when i push down my clutch to the floorboard and turn the ignition key nothing happens, i had a neutral safety swith put in last fall and have noticed since x-mas that i have to press the clutch harder and harder into the floorboard to get the engine to turn over, the clutch shifts fine once started, and springs back up every time no problem, ..........could it be a safety switch, a torn or stretched clutch line/cable, clutch master cyl...? i am not sure, and don't want a mechanic to rip me off when i take it in, b/c i know the problem is probably quite simple any help would be great from you guys........thanks.............chad

Check to see that the clutch safety switch hasn't moved on you. If it has, move it back to where it should be.

Something I see on heavy trucks is the jake brake microswitch gets bent out of shape. See that your switch isn't bent.

By the way, welcome to FTE. This might get moved.

clutch not engaging starter

allright. when i press my clutch down to the floorboard, my engine will not turn over, the clutch pops right back up, but there is not even a sound from fuel pump and what not, i had the neutral safety switch replaced last fall and have noticed since x-mas that i have had to press the clutch harder and harder into the floorboard to get it to start, well now my damn truck won't start at all, i just returned from vacation and last week b4 i left i was really struggling just to get it started by really getting on the clutch,.....so do these safety switches wear out quickly.....is it a wear in the clutch line???? i don't want to get ripped by a mechanic when i take it in.....also once the truck does start the tranny and clutch works fine, everything shifts great

Look around under the dash for play in the clutch pedal linkage. There are several bushings under there that can wear out and not allow the pedal to fully depress the master cylinder.

I honestly do not know what this switch you're talking about looks like. But if I may use some deductive reasoning, I would have to say your switch would be in some way connected to your clutch pedal, or clutch linkage in some way.

My '92 F150 was doing the same thing. Had to push the clutch pedal hard to the floor to get the truck started. Posted my problem here and had several responses. One theory advanced was the neutral saftey switch. My problem turned out to be the brake/clutch pedal assembly. It was fixing to fail. My local Ford Dealer replaced the assembly and solved the problem. The part is not too expensive but the labor is. Hope this helps.
