Question whine in rear end of 1993 ranger

We are the original owners of a 5 speed, 1993 Ranger pick-up with 140000 miles. Within the last week it has developed a high-pitched whine in the rear end while driving, and this is in all the gears. Any suggestions on what this might be? Thanks

Does it make more noise when applying power and less when decelerating. If it does, I would say pinion bearings. If constant may be wheel bearing.
