New F350/fold down license plate

Hi all,

I just traded in my F150 for an F350. It's a 2001, XLT, extended cab, 8' bed, dually, 4X4 with the V10...ARGH, ARGH, ARGH! Now I can tow the camper and bring the motorcycle along. Yeah baby.

I've had it for 48 hours now and absolutely love it. I'll be installing the Westin Platinum series steps tomorrow. My wife, at 5', told me to put steps on immediately or buy her a parachute.

Now the question. Has anybody installed the fold down license plate frame that JC Whitney sells? The one you can also use as a step. I'm only 5'8" and need a little help peeking under the hood.

Looking forward to some good info as time goes on.

Later,

Rip

The foldup step sounds like a good idea. I don't have one, but I do have a small 2 foot stepladder that I use to get under the hood (and I'm 5'11"). You'll need a ladder anyway as you'll find out the first time you go to wash that beast. I went from a F150 also. What a jump from a 1/2 ton regular cab/short box! I did manage a McDonalds drive thru 2 days ago, but usually they are too tight so I have to go in and order. Oh well, the compromises you make for a "real" truck.

ha.......i thought i came up with the 2 foot ladder idea! i'm only 5'6" and need it just to look in my tool box or to check the oil on my f-350. was going to get full running boards, but at > $600, the $20 step ladder seemed to do the trick, especially for under hood work.

LAST EDITED ON 30-Jan-01 AT 04:51 PM (EST)[p]Stop and make sure the fold down license plate will work. I don't believe where the license plate attaches is metal. If it's not, then you'll start breaking down that lower valence on the bumper. This is just a word of caution to make sure you don't tear up your new truck. I ordered the tire step out of the Ford Truck Accessories catalog to work in the engine compartment of my truck and I'm 6'0" tall.

Good luck,
