Question v10 gas mileage part 100,001

Ok, I know that the v10 gas mileage is all over these boards
But instead of searching anymore, I will just ask myself.

I just bought a 99 f250 4x4 crew cab v10 I've used a half a tank so far and have gone 110 miles ( in town ) how far do other drivers of the v10 go on a half a tank????

The reason I'm asking is that in my other vehicles, (GMC Z71) I could run forever on the top half of the tank, but once it hit half way, the gage would just drop.. I could drive further on the top half by far than the second half. and visa versa on my 99 f150 5.4

What has been your experience w/ the v10 as far as that goes?

Also, will synthetic oil make any difference w/ mileage? It sure did in my f150.

One more thing,,,, Does anybody know how to take the trip computer off? It doesn't work, not sure if its bad, or a loose wire or what the deal is w/ that thing. Just thought I'd pull it down and check the connections.

from the looks of your truck, I woulden't doubt that kind of mileage... That thing is huge.... I'm just sitting on 305's w/ no lift.

I get the adverage 10.5-11.5+ city. MPG will vary from location, driving habits, and vehicle setup. I got a ton of mods with 33" tires, I have yet to have a serious drop in MPG.

Longbed? Shortbed? 38 gallons versus 29 gallons? Half of 38 is much different than half of 29. My mileage is about what HeavyAssault gets. It not the gas mileage I worry about, it's the gas prices! Spent over $80 last night to fill with 87 octane at $2.229 a gallon.

Thanks for the reply on the 29 gallon thing, but you didn't need to rub it in about the gas prices!!! Geeesh!!!
Yeah, CA sucks with gas prices. I think we pay about .35 a gallon in fuel taxes plus 7.75% sales tax on top of that. Right now they say a couple of refineries are down so they can convert to our 'summer' recipe of gasoline. It's 'Oxygenated' to reduce smog. Supply and demand; The refineries choke the supply to drive up the prices.

I get around 300 miles a tank, sometimes more or less depending on driving style and outside air temp, with a 29 gal tank. I usually fill up adding only 24 gallons. Can't ever seem to get more in. Thats another post.

I guess were pretty lucky on gas prices... We see 1.49 and choke back the tears... Of course we have two refineries right here in town, so I guess that helps somewhat... We are usually one of the cheapest states w/ the gas prices... I guess if I was in california, I would be driving a mo-ped right about now..

I know not to drive the v10 to cali anytime soon.

I would love to get 300 out of a tank. I just got rid of a 99 f150 4x4, and usually got around 10 mpg out of the 5.4... I thought that sucked. Was hoping to stay right around the same w/ the v10... I read all these boards before hand and saw how everybody seemed to be getting 11 or so average mpg, and thought that would be great... I'll see what the rest of the tank gives me.

My 99 F250 SuperCab 4x2 has a 38 gal tank. I have been getting in 32/33 gallons in and running 367/372. I took the advice of keeping it at <2000 rpms. It does run real good though, at 70 mph it was tached at just under 2500, 4.30 LS rear (everything stock). Gas in my part o' the country is a buck 58 for the 87

My truck gets anywhere from 9-16 mpg only seen 16 twice. I would say that I average 13 or so. Only mod is SCMT. Took the sleds up north last weekend and got 10.8 mpg pulling a 4 place with 4 sleds (600 miles round trip). I can't complain. You will never get v10 power with 4 banger mpg.

I just bought a lifted 99 f250 superduty V-10 4x4 extened cab shortbed with brand new procomp extremes for 16500. Two questions, did I do okay on the price and where can I get an owners manual?

You can sign up on Fords website to get an owners manual in PDF format. Also my mpg across Utah and Colorado mountain highway driving was 12.7 MPG. I have a Flowmaster Big Block. Also on the V10 exhaust we cut the snake twist pipe and put a straight pipe on it. To decrease chokepoints in the pipe.
