Question Truck just lifted, vibration just when taking off

I just finised an install of a 4" Superlift kit on my 96 extended cab PSD. There is a vibration only at take off below 5mph. I used a rear block kit, which requires to stack the new block on top of the stock block per Superlift instructions. The vibration feels like axle hop almost. Any of you guys with lifted PSD experience this problem?

You have to reshim your carrier bearing to get the correct angle back. If you dont you will wear out your carrier bearing. reference the post that is titled "shudder" it is what you are experiencing.

Stacking blocks usually is not a good idea, you probably will need between .50 and .75 inches of spacers, start small and go up if you have to, add until most all or all of the vibration goes away. It might take more than .75 in. just depends. let me know is this helps

"Just my 2c, but I thought stacking blocks was a no no ?"

Exactly what I thought. The Superlift instructions say to "place the 3" block on top of the stock block". I even call Superlift and was told that is the correct way. I believe I am gonna order the rear lift springs. I just am not happy with their rear set up using blocks and from what I have been told most other companys lifts are done the same way in the rear.

I did lower the bearing last night, about .50", much better, not gone but at least I am going in the right direction. Over the weekend I will try another .25" and go from there. Thaks for all the help.....

I had the exact same problem when I lifted my truck ......... Lowered the carrier bearing and problem dissappeared.
Now I know not everyone will agree with this but I used a peice of 3/4 inch hardwood to shim the bearing, and I had to get longer bolts to reattach it ........... works fine for me.

Tough Country builds a metal carrier bearing dropdown shim. They are about a 1/2 inch thick. I had to use two for a 6 inch lift.

Vman, how you like the Superlift? I'm thinking of getting the 6", this lift I understand replaces all four springs. I like that Superlift has changed to the ten leaf spring pack, which should give a good ride...at least for a one ton truck! My boss put a 6" Fabtech on his 04 F350 w/37's and now his wife will not ride in it,she says it rides way to rough.

Hey Vman. I have the same superlift 4" lift an it is a awsume lift. It has the 10 leaf front springs which did give the truck a better ride. I had the blocks on the back for maybe a week then I decided to go ahead an put the rear springs instead. I did'nt like all the blocks stacked underneath. You said u put the superlift block on top of the stock block, I dont think that is right. You place the superlift 3" block on top of the welded block perch which is welded to the axle then put your stock block on top of that because it has attached to it a compression travel stop for your bump stops to hit just in case their is a lot of compression. You would really have to have a heck of a load and then hit a good bump to compress all the way to the travel stops but it is possible. Without the travel stops in the right position it would allow the trucks rear end to go 3 to 4 inches further down than normal. The rear springs cost me an extra 300 to 400 dollars but it is really a nice ride with them rear springs instead of blocks. My carrier bearing was not effected at all, had no vibration at all. Was told by superlift that very few 4" lifts effect carrier bearing but 6" and up does. Anyway just my 2 pennies. Later

The ride, just as cuttr28 said is much better than stock. I only wish I would have installed this kit earlier. Bumps are not nearly as harsh.

I am planning on getting the rear springs ordered next week. You are right about the bump stop. I read the instructions again and it does say to place the 3" block on top of the stock block. I am going to try to move the block under the stock one.

As for a 4" lift....I now have 11" between the tire and the fender. That is with 305/70's on stock rims. It at least lifted the truck 5" or more. The truck is not level yet still has a little sag in the rear, maybe an inch or so. Cuttr how much did it lift your truck? Pics?

I know this may be wierd as well, I have noticed a loss of MPG in the week after the install. It seems to take more pedal to keep the truck moving. I guess the pinion angle is way out of spec.

I do have a set of shims that I will have on Saturday. I am gonna start at .75" and go from there.

Vman
