Power Steering pump NOISY!

Anybody no how to stop a power steering pump from making so much noise? it only has 33000 miles on it and has made the same amount of noise since i bought last july with 26000 on it. I had an 88 mustang that used to make the same damn noise. any suggestions? The truck in question is a 96 F-250 H/D 4x4.

No idea. The PS pump on my 96 bronco makes alot of noise too, and has since I bought it. It seems that whole era of trucks had noisy ps pumps from what Ive seen.

Its true I belive its a FORD problem inherent in most of there models. If you got a disel you'd never notise the noise.

I don't hear mine unless i'm turning at a slow speed. 99% of ford power steering pumps in these trucks are loud, and are loud in other models too. The only real way to fix it is to use a different pump, saginaw is nice.

Time to replace the PS pump. Get a remanufacture one, it is relatively cheap ($50). You can borrow a puller from Autozone to complete the job. make sure flush out the old PS fluid and replace with new one. Good luck.

When I bought my used '92, it had a screaming power steering pump also. I replaced it with a Carquest remanufactured unit. It has been running quiet for about a year now and no problems. I made sure that I flushed out all the crap from the steering gear by unhooking the return line and running it into a catchpan as I kept the running new pump full. I did not want the crap from the old pump contaminating my new pump. Charles

Thanks, I will replace it then, wanted to make sure it would stop the insane noise before I actually changed it out.

I have used Lucas ps additive in the past in many cars and it has worked in all of them.
