Other Tymar users chime in here..

IMHO the Donaldson element is a better performer when it comes to filtration since cellulose is the best media for filtering.. And besides, The donaldson has twice the volume than the K & N element, therefore allowing more air flow.. And no oiling the element like the K & N element has to be..

I trashed the K & N into the garbage.. Sorry
Your welcome to dig through the trash though..

K&N lets in dust and doesn't flow as much air as other intakes anyway.

You really think the Tymar is that much better than the K&N? Let's hear more about it and where do you purchase one of these? I am in a very dusty enviroment here on the farm.

You asked for TYMAR users to chime in, well.. I'm chiming. Another advantage to the TYMAR, at least to me, is that I start with a brand new filter when I change it. I've heard that an improperly cleaned K&N can/will develop pinholes, that will allow dust into the turbo.
I'm not against K&N as a company, nor do I say that all of their products are bad. They make great products for some applications. Edelbrock makes some great stuff, too, but I can't find a use for any of it on my truck. I merely think the TYMAR is the best intake system on the market. It flows more air than my truck can use, it's at the top of the heap for filtration, and it's the cheapest intake on the market. If it scored well on two out of three, it'd be a great deal.

Is that enough chiming?

You might want to check out the Ford AIS system. Specifically made for high dust environments.

I am using the TYMAR on both of my PSD's. Very low silicon number on oil analysis and the intake hose is always clean. I recommend it especially over the stock boxes. I have 2 Tymar set-ups for less than the cost of 1 AIS. JMO

I agree 100% with Quadzilla's statement. K&N are very good in normally aspirated gas engines. Not ver good filtration quality on forced induction engines especially Diesels. The Ford AIS is also a very good system, but pricey. The cheapest I have seen them is $300.

Ditto, I like K&N filters. But.....my Tymar intake and filter setup kicks the crap out of the K&N. Quadzilla helped me see the light on that one. He told me my only regret would be not getting one sooner. He was right. Call Dale, you WON'T be sorry.

That all sounds great but, how often do you have to change the filter?

Ggg66,

The complete Ford AIS Severe Duty Intake WITH the Donaldson filter (different media than the Tymar) can be purchased for $189.00 throught the Ford Part Network.
