Is AAA worth it?

ya know I always get these AAA memberships in the mail and I was wondering if it is worth it. For people who work on their own car I don't know if it is? I don't use the trip tix etc. The only thing I can think of is the ability to get towed when you are on the road or for the wife who gets stuck and your not around. I'm starting to talk myself into a membership I think?

Opinions?

IHMO, usless you have a car that is poorly maintained or prone to breaking down - NO!

I have had to be towed or jump started about 4 times in my driving life (41 years). Ha I paid for AAA all those years I dare say my road service would have been very expensive! If you don't want their other services like trip planning then save your money for the occasional tow!

If you only used it once,it would pay for itself.Towing charges are outragous these days.I think it's worth it.

It is a good thing for older folks there is a comfort zone with it.

I know alot of people that use it and love it, young and old.

I get the AAA plus......it is more but you get a tow of up to 100 miles.......I want to get repairs where I trust what is being done and the price.IMO it therefore is worth it..

I have it and that is exactly why. Plus, it puts a limit on what they can charge you, especially if you have a AWD vehicle and need to have it flat bedded.

I do travel long distances once or twice a year, plus, I can have up to three cars on the road at one time. It is not impossible to have your vehicle disabled by running over something and having two flat tires and need a tow to tire store or Ford dealer. Or to hit something that punches a hole through your radiator.

I read a deal a while back about a guy that drank too much on a regular basis. When he got too drunk, he would call the auto club and tell them that his car wouldn't start and that he needed a tow. Then, when the driver got there, he would explain the situation and give him a $20 to tow the car to his hotel or wherever. That way he never ran the chance of getting a dui and never had to leave his car at the bar.

ANYTHING to keep a judgement-impaired driver off the street is OK.

I have AMA (CAA) Plus R/V.

Even though my vehicles are well maintained I have still had occasion to need it.

It seems the following don't care of you have a membership or not:

Transmissions
Timing Chains & Gears
Rear Axles
Spindles fatigue
Power steering pumps blow

On Dec 22nd I had my Buick towed from Calgary to Red Deer
(97 miles) because that's where the shop is that I do my major work at.
The bill would have been around $800.

The nice thing is if my truck breaks down in the middle of nowhere
They will tow my Truck & Trailer 160 km's.

My coverage costs $ 90 /year.

I get 5 tows of 160Km
5 lost key door open's
or
bring fuel

PLus... this is good for any vehicle I want the service for.

IMHO, it's worth it. Having a flat tire on a cold rainy day is no picnic, but at least with AAA, you don't have to change it yourself. I've had 3 flats in the past six months (at my house) and they've been out and changed the tire in 20 minutes or less. The last time the driver offered to take the flat tire and plug it for $5.00 and bring it back and put it on the car. Gave him a nice tip for saving me the time and trouble.

Not to mention it helps if you lock your keys in your car. I have a couple friends who do this, and have AAA. Combined with the price of a locksmith with the price of the towing, and AAA seems like a reasonable deal.

I was stranded once. I placed the call (my father was the cardholder, and was with me). They refused me service, as well as my father the cardholder (corporate account... many year member). He was livid. He cancelled on the spot. I hope they go bankrupt.
