fuel sending unit resistance and fuel pumps

This is for my bronco, but I ***-u-me that it is the same as the f-100. Question is.. what resistance should I be reading on the fuel sending unit? I have read that it should be 10-72 ohms. I am currentently reading 58-91 ohms on my sending unit, and the in cab gage is definatly not working. Assuming that my sending unit is messed up, can it be repaired? new bronco sending units are not cheap!!

Also, has anyone converted to an in tank electric pump? (ch*vy pump) I have vaporlock problems, and I think an in tank pump might solve it, or should I just stick with the external pump.

Thanks in advance.
