Pulling E40D trouble codes

So I have read we don't have an ECM with a 93 IDI diesel, but we do have a PCM (powertrain control module) controlling the transmision. How do you pull codes for the tranny then? I have looked all under the dash and can't find anything resembling an ALDL conn. My OD button was flashing for a few days last week and want to know why.

The connector is under the hood, driver's side. Underdash connectors came with OBD II in '96.
