And as for the torque shift , I've been running it on the 65 setting with no problems, towing with it and everything. And 740 on the torque we'll see what happens they say it's rated for 1200+lbs of torque.

1200+lbs. of torque?!? It seems that Ford/Navistar has PLENTY of room to out do whatever cummins and duramax put out. We all know that at some point the transmission "gives" on a dodge and falls apart (unless they really do something about it). As for chevy and their duramax, who knows what effects this torque war may have on it? I say that because alot of people rag about it's aluminum heads. Aluminum on a diesel engine doesn't sound too good to begin with, but what is story on that?

Do the words heavy romp mean anything to you?
Of course you know Ranch, I'm only teasing. I'm sure Ford fixed that with the flashes. I know people with 6.0 PSDs who are yet to have any problems at all.

Just might want to watch out what you make fun of.
It just might happen to you.

Indeed it might. Thanks for the information. Of course, just as problems did not effect all 6.0 owners, I don't know that this problem will effect all 600 owners either. But heck. You never know. With my luck, the beast will be spurting oil all over the place and I'll have to sue the damn dealer.

In all seriousness, I appreciated the heads up. I have done quite a bit of research since you mentioned it, and while it is too early to tell for sure, it does not appear that I am effected. I found a person who works for Cummins on another board and he has been a wealth of information. At this early stage, I don't think I am effected. Of course only time will tell for sure, but I tested it out real good today and didn't have a single problem. Matter of fact, I played a nice game of cat and mouse with a Ford on the way home from work. He just couldn't keep up. I guess it wasn't really fair since it was a Ranger!
Just kidding of course. I am anxious to see the new 05 Super Duty. There are some photos I have found leaked out on the net, but you can't get enough detail from them. It took me about two years to adapt to the last design change. It always does. I hated the look of the Dodge when they changed them.

Though my signature is a little old the 1996 cummins in my Ford truck is pushing 447000 this week and all that has been done to it is valve adjustments $100 every 40-50k and one lift pump $58. No injectors no injector pump, no burned oil between oil changes, i have had the ceramic clutch from 140,000 miles ago and the tranny is knocking on 200,000 miles and still no noises. and three months ago on the dyno i booked 347 hp 781 lbft and i still get 16 loaded and 21-23 empty 25 when i keep my foot out of it. ive been impressed with this motor and overall when i used to keep the records for my company on mileage costs the dodges with the cummins were the cheapest especially over a prolonged period of time 300-500k miles they typically were .08-.10 cents per mile ceaper including maintence and repairs and that was on a fleet of over 100 different trucks Ford and Dodge up 2003 most were ordered with manual trannys.

My father owns a 1992 D250 4x4 with a 5.9l cummins and a 5 speed. It has almost 250,000 miles on it. It still has the original clutch in it. Our neigbor had a 6.9l ford and it died after 100000 miles. He has put on a turbo kit, exhaust kit and a bigger intercooler. It has been a great truck for him. The 8 cyclinder diesel design while good for large displacement diesel, IE a cunmmins 903, or a cat 3208 ect, it is not as strong as nor will it last as long as a in line 6 will. Just a simple matter of physics.

claysyddad I would have to agree that the cummins is avery durable and long lasting engine. As far as the 6.9 is concerned I know of several around my are that have 300,000 + miles still going strong. It all boils down to how you take care of them I believe. Ill stick with Ford better overall truck.
