Ford 351 Fuel Injection

Hey guys can you tell me what was the last year that ford fuel injected the 351 and what was the easiest or best one to swap to. I am thinking of putting one in my truck. Ed

One of the earlier years will probably be the easiest swap. The engine/computer wiring harness is separate from the rest of the underhood wiring. Later years got the E4OD (roughly '90 and up) and also new computer, EEC-V in '96.

For harness, either an '88 or '89. I think the engine harness got integrated into the entire underhood harness in '90. Any EEC-IV computer for a 351 truck motor with the transmission that you have will work. It may have to come from an F250 if you have a stick shift. F150's with the 351 only had a stick shift in '88, which was also the very first year for EFI 351's.

That's cool, just make sure you have a computer for a 351 and an AOD or a C6. As long as it is for a non-electronic automatic, it'll be fine.

Sounds good. In your opinion which would be the most desirable EFI 351 setup. Year/heads/motor block. Also which EFI factory setup. I have time to think about it. Ed

I suspect that all the 351 computer programs are very very similar, so one year probably isn't any better than another. I don't know about the physical engine either, although I think all EFI 351's were the same, or very similar.

The Lightning was the only 351 that came stock with GT40 heads as far as I know. I know you can get them aftermarket, but I don't know much about heads to tell you anything about what to do with them.

You can get just the GT40 heads for probably well under $1000. They can be bolted on to pretty much any small block Ford. There are several different versions of the GT40 heads - cast iron, aluminum, GT40P, etc. You don't have to buy a Lightning engine to get GT40 heads...
