Brake Harness Hookup

Brake Harness Hookup
I am installing an Activator III by Draw-Tite Brake controller in my truck and I have come to the point of putting it in the truck (prewired with the brake harness) the only question is where do I hook up the brown wire from the harness. If you can give me some help I would appretiate it.

My truck came with wiring harness and instructions on how to hook up the brake controlled. The harness plugs into a multipin connector under the dash and then you use the pigtail end to connect to the controller. I'll look for the instructions tonight and post them. If your truck came with the traileer tow option you should have got the same thing, if not tell the dealer to order you one.

Yes, it came with the harness. I have the brake controller hooked up but there is still the brown wire to deal with. I have the instructions already but the wireing diagram is pretty crappy and have you looked under the dashboard of the new F-150..... maze of wires. I am starting to wonder if the brown wire is only applicable in certain brake controllers or what. Thanks for the reply though.

The brown wire is for illumination, if your controller has that option, I don't know of any that do. I just installed a new Tekonsha Prodigy today, I bought the Teknosha harness that plugs into the controller and directly into the trucks wiring harness. They didn't even bother to put the brown wire in their harness.

Alright, thanks for the info Neil..... I ended up hooking it up earlier today and said to hell with the brown wire, I towed with it tonight and it seemed to work great. I did notice that it smelled like the exhaust was WELL burnt in tonight when I got out of the truck I smelled it right away. Almost like a burnt plastic smell.
