Question Fuel Cell Install on a 54

I am a newbie 54 F100 owner. I have a 390 ci engine and would like to replace my leaky fuel tank with a fuel cell. An suggestions on locations? I followed some threads on mustang gas tanks behind the rear axel etc., but a fuel cell seems safer.

If someone has done an installation, would you please post some pictures with some tips?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Adrian

I installed a Summit pro street 16 gal fuel cell behind the rear axle in my 56 F100. It was before I had a digi cam so I dont have any readily available pics, but I can take a few now if your interested.

Sandimasguy420 & 1956F100,

A few more questions have come to mind...

Would you please post some pictures with the fuel filler setup and possibly the mounting configuration of the fuell cell?

Did you keep the mechanical fuel pump setup or did you go electric? If so, any recommendations for the fuel pump type?

Thanks,

I took a couple pics, I dont have any bedwood yet so it was easy to do. I have not yet fully thought about how I will make my filler mount. Jaz and a few other companies off all sorts of filler necks and such. I dont know how to post pics on this site, ill try to email them to u or put them in my gallery for awhile. Good luck.

i put a fuel cell in my 55 ford out of jegs, i used a poly one and i dont remember the size exactly but i had to move the crossmember for the rear that attaches th the leafs n brackets n such, i just took out the bolts n moved it from the rear bolts to the front ones, i think. i did something like that. so it dropped in n sat nice. i have a pic but cant figure out how to post it, will try to get it in gallery

Yeah that reminds me, I also moved one of the rear crossmembers, but it only needed to be moved slightly. Probably could have gotten away with just notching the inner lip of the crossmember. I added the pics to my gallery, please excuse the dirty mess, I havent worked on my truck for awhile, but it sure feels good to again

then looking at that pic again, i used a piece of angle iron on the front side n bolted it to the frame, i think it will work for what i need it for, to hold a few gallons of gas for sat night, and i like the weight being distributed to the rear, especially on such a short truck.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I live in Riverside and work in the OC.

On the email..., newbies aren't allowed to email so I will have to wait till I get my share of posts in.
