They better not screw this up.

I know its going to be though.

If I were FoMoCo, I'd build with a Dana 30 in the rear. dana 35C in the front, Inline 6 engine, NP 203, & leaf springs.

> Ford executives stressed that the Escape can go off-road.

Off road as in a gravel driveway

Wait until you hang an Escape on a log or rock with both axles off the ground. It is bad enough trying to find a good place to lift it without damage using a floor jack.

Note he said too big, not too long.

If this ever gets to be body on frame with solid axles I would be really surprised. Otherwise, Jeep has nothing to worry about with the Wrangler or Liberty.

thats pissant jeep stuff.
jeepers upgrade from that.
D44 front (at least)
9" rear (or current 1/2 ton axle)
NP205 (np203 is fulltime and chain drive)
three link wishbone
5.4L or better

or use a F350 chassis.

We are going for cheap here.

MY combo will beat any Wrangler out there. I don't have a problem with upgrading to Dana 44's F&R.

Ford has to keep this under $18K, I think its an excellent application for the 4.2L V6.

FoMoCo will build a IRS/IFS, FWD with RWD backup, in a four banger. It's another Bronco II only with more Escape in its blood.

Call me crazy....
