Unhappy Transmission Concern

Has anyone had a shudder in transmission before everything has come up to temp. My F150 seems to shudder when starting out wwwhen its cold. I had a Mustang a few years back that did this and they had to replace torque converter in it. Seems there was a TSB out on it .

Reports here claim (my service dept. confirms that) it is the clutches in the limited slip rear end causing the shudder. Their is apparently a new clutch pack and a anti-foaming agent service departments can ad to correct the problem. My dealer said 3 days for the repair which is out of line in my thoughts, but what can a feller do?

My truck has this 'shudder' as well. Do you know if this service to fix the problem is covered under warranty or is it something you have to pay for?

I know I have the 3yr/36K warranty. I just wasn't sure if he was saying that this will be repaired under warranty, or if they are saying that it can be worked on at the owner's expense. I will be going to my dealer in a day or two to get a fog lamp housing replaced, so I'll mention it to them then.

Thumbs up Transmission Concern

Thanks for the info bruuuce. I will check with the dealer here and see what they say. If you know what the service bulletin # is could you pass it along. Thanks again!

This has to be the best site for owners of these trucks.

Just reciently, I had to bring my wifes taurus because of the shudder in the tranny. The service manager said it is a matter of reprograming the chip in certain vehicles. A simple fix that is covered under warranty.
Hope this helps

Just took my truck back to dealer and they will check it out. Had tech. drive it and he says it was rear axle. I don't kanow what they plan on doing to fix but I hope its more than just changing out fluid and replacing. It will be interesting. I hope I don't have to fight with them. If anyone has had this problem before please let me know what repairs were done.

Wink

I checked on this today while I was at work, I ran my vin # and there is a service message out on this issue. It is not a TSB or recall but their is a message out about the clutch pack, there is an updated clutch pack available. I think Im gonna give it a little time before I do anything on mine, I dont think it will hurt anything and I dont really want mine torn apart unless it has to be.

I just noticed the same shudder with mine over the last few days. I figured it was the Limited Slip. I think I will wait a while and let the dealer get some practice before they tear into mine. Is this a new rear end this year or something? Hard to believe this is happening to so many 04's.

Does anyone know if this goes away in warmer conditions or after the rear end warms up?

Thanks........04 F-150 Lariat 4x4 SCREW

Cool Limited slip

My 2004 Lariat Scab 4x2 developed this Limited Slip clutch problem within the first 1,000 miles. It only happens briefly when you turn while accelerating from a stop, and decreases a bit as the tempature comes up. I now have 4,200 miles on the truck and while the problem increased a bit at first, it now remains constant and does not prevent me from towing my 6,000 lb. trailer.

I am going to wait until I have 5,000 miles on it and take it in for an oil sevice (my second) and the clutch pack situation.

I really like this truck, never owned a Lincoln before!

I think my Fx4 SCrew has the same problem. I first noticed it when I was a stop light and made a turn, it felt like the transmission slipped. Then I thought it was the limited slip rear kicking in, but it also happened going straight on a dry road. I hope my dealer came across this problem and has the fix. Does the new clutch fix this problem? Everything else is great.

This shudder that you guys are talking about... is this only in certain models, or is it widespread? I own the 2004 F-150 STX Supercab. Thanks
