Question Looking at '90 F-250 - Would like details - Please help

As the title says, I am thinking about getting a 1990 F-250 HD truck. I don't know a whole lot about trucks from that time-frame.

Here are some of the details that I know:

It's a 1990 F-250 Heavy Duty, 4x4, has trailer towing package. Not sure of engine size or tranny type.

The seller mentioned that he used it for 5 years as a plow truck, and consequently it has 2 extra leafs on each side up front. He has a loNG list of parts that have been replaced within the last 2 years.

He thinks that the oil pump is going bad and that the 'lines' on the tranny are going to need to be replaced. He mentioned that the tranny leaks a little (hence the bad lines).

The truck has, according to him, 162,000 miles on it.

He is asking 650 obo.

First off, is this a good deal (I know that is a relative question)?

I'm not crazy about it having been a plow truck, but could it be brought back into the condition of non-plow truck (or does extensive plowing permenatly damage the truck)?

He is going to be sending me some digital pictures. Then I am going to get the VIN from him. In the mean time, is there a site which will tell me all of the available configurations for that year. I would like to find out what engine/tranny it has, the axels, transfer case, etc.

In your opinion, with a little TLC, a few new parts, and some rebuilding on the engine, could this truck be a daily driver (and maybe weekend warrior)?

Sorry for the long winded post, I just sort of typed as I was thinking.

Any info or advice that you can share would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Steve

You can always offer him less, I'd probably go for it. That sounds like a good deal.

I got a picture from the guy. I posted it my gallery. Here is the link:

Also, what other models share body parts with this year. If I bought this truck one of the first things I would want to do is fix (or replace) the back passanger side of the bed.

Thanks for your help,
Steve

I plow snow and the ford trucks we use are alot bigger but they have about 80,000 miles of strictly plowing on them and still drive like new. hell they run better than the ones we use for just driving around.

'87-91 F series and Bronco share the same body parts all around. '87-96 have the same outer doors and the backs of the vehicles are the same. The inner doors changed from 91 to 92.

I'd take the truck for $650 for parts alone.

Bigric,

Thanks for the info. That is exactly the kind of info that I going to want to completely absorb if I end up with this truck.

Got anymore you can share?

Go for it. I just bought a 96 F250 with 271,000 km (Canadian trucks have kilometres rather than miles) which is about 169000 miles and I love it. Ford made these trucks to last and with some care they do this very well. It is a nice work truck and with a little tlc I will be very happy with it. It is a nice truck that rides and handles well and with the 302 is not too bad on fuel.
