Looking at '90 F-250 - Would like details - Please help
As the title says, I am thinking about getting a 1990 F-250 HD truck. I don't know a whole lot about trucks from that time-frame.
Here are some of the details that I know:
It's a 1990 F-250 Heavy Duty, 4x4, has trailer towing package. Not sure of engine size or tranny type.
The seller mentioned that he used it for 5 years as a plow truck, and consequently it has 2 extra leafs on each side up front. He has a loNG list of parts that have been replaced within the last 2 years.
He thinks that the oil pump is going bad and that the 'lines' on the tranny are going to need to be replaced. He mentioned that the tranny leaks a little (hence the bad lines).
The truck has, according to him, 162,000 miles on it.
He is asking 650 obo.
First off, is this a good deal (I know that is a relative question)?
I'm not crazy about it having been a plow truck, but could it be brought back into the condition of non-plow truck (or does extensive plowing permenatly damage the truck)?
He is going to be sending me some digital pictures. Then I am going to get the VIN from him. In the mean time, is there a site which will tell me all of the available configurations for that year. I would like to find out what engine/tranny it has, the axels, transfer case, etc.
In your opinion, with a little TLC, a few new parts, and some rebuilding on the engine, could this truck be a daily driver (and maybe weekend warrior)?
Sorry for the long winded post, I just sort of typed as I was thinking.
Any info or advice that you can share would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Steve

I got a picture from the guy. I posted it my gallery. Here is the link:

Also, what other models share body parts with this year. If I bought this truck one of the first things I would want to do is fix (or replace) the back passanger side of the bed.
Thanks for your help,
Steve

Go for it. I just bought a 96 F250 with 271,000 km (Canadian trucks have kilometres rather than miles) which is about 169000 miles and I love it. Ford made these trucks to last and with some care they do this very well. It is a nice work truck and with a little tlc I will be very happy with it. It is a nice truck that rides and handles well and with the 302 is not too bad on fuel.
