Ford Engines the Weakest
What a term empty of meaning and substance, "Weakest", used to describe a device that has man/years of engineering, millions of sales and over a decade of successful service. For me it is more personal and much more specific. When I think of the Chevy's I have had over the years retro visions of snow covered roadside breakdowns, motors trashed, transmissions kaput, weak brakes and schedules busted flash before me. My personal 2002 SD PSD is not the first Ford I ever bought, I bought many for a company. They have been overall the best in terms of dependability, power and service life. Simply put, for those that are simple, I made money with the Fords the Chevy's lost money. Power, the 1998 5.4 F150 Triton I had as much as I ever needed, the personal PSD I have is just fine, power wise, by me. The five PSD's I bought for a company are still going some at over 200K of rough construction service. Statistics are made to be skewed. It is easier to print a magazine than it is to bring a product as dependable as the Triton and Powerstroke engines to market. Have you ever heard, gasp, that some people believe anything they read? :-X23

After reading this post I went and pulled up some past dyno runs that we have on file, the newest GM we have graphed is a '01 6.0 liter with a Borla catback and K&N filtercharger-215hp and 261 ftlb of torque at the rear wheels, also have a '00 GMC with 7.4 litre on file 199 hp and 309ft lb of torque(stock). The only late model Dodge on file is a dakota R/T with a 5.9 -188hp and 230ft lb of torque.I just dynoed my '00 V10 and it was 226hp and 319ftlb of torque at the wheels.I also have a 1999 camaro(stock) with a factory rating of 305 flywheel HP,and it makes 316 to the rear wheels!(very common among these cars).I drive and pull with alot of trucks,as do alot of you I'm sure, and although I am partial to the ford(V10),I cant really see a BIG difference from truck to truck with comparable drivetrains. Of the trucks we modify the GM 5.3 is the most popular, and the pushrod V-8's resond very well to modifications. I think if you drive it and you like it,no matter what the brand, you wont worry about 2 or 3 horsepower. -Philip, ATS Performance

I just traded in my wife's `99 F150 4x4 SC with the 5.4 and 3.73 gears for the same thing in a `01 Dodge. Dodge has a 5.9 and 4.10 gears. The 5.4 spanks this Dodge motor. My Dodge also gets about 12.5 mpg, and my ford got about 15 mpg.
Even my wife comments on how much less power the Dodge has. Too bad the Ford was in the shop so much.

The other thing is where the power is put. Chevy and Dodge have more power in their trucks. Big whoop. I don't want an engine I have to rev to 5500rpms to get those few, measily extra ponies. I drove my friend's new Z71, shortbed, auto, 4x4, ext cab, 5.3. I was forced to. My truck has got more power where I need it! I know I can easily take him. Hec, I've even beaten a new Grand Cherokee from a stop light.
Besides, with the new 6 liter PSD and new 3V 5.4, Ford will always be on top.
oooh, just read my post back over....I'm not flaming here, I just tend to be a wee bit aggressive at times. Ford rules, chebby and dudge drools.

If Ford engines are so weak, then why are they used so much in RVs? Especially the Triton V-10 vs. the C Y engine? And where the hell is Dodge in the RV market? I was looking at the specs for a for the Fleetwood Fiesta. They offer it in two flavors, C y 8.1L V-8 or Ford 6.8L V-10. But the GVWR and the GCWR for the C y based RV were 1,000lbs and 2,500lbs less then the Ford V-10 equipped model. If the C y engine is so big and bad ***, then how come it can't tow or haul as much as the Ford V-10 on the same chassis? And they have more displacement.
What would be weak IMHO is someone buying a truck made out of rocks.

I have 2 powerstrokes, both of which regularly perform better than the competitions offerings. Neither Chevrolet or Dodge can offer anything to match my F450, so where are they getting the figures from? I am unsure of the actual specs of my new F250, but the seat of the pants gauge suggests more umph than the last Dodge I went in, and certainly more than the 02 Chevy I got a lift in recently. Both competitors were diesels, so the comparisons were fair. (both drivers fell for the hype, and thought their trucks were amazing - when I told them I had a powerstroke they laughed and said watch this - I am still unimpressed. One of the offenders sat in my truck as I pulled away from an uphill stop light - he was impressed, and I was at half throttle.
