It will be very hard to give you an answer with the limited info you have given us. What is shredding? The sides, the groves, the backing? Is it squealing.

I know in my neck of the woods the cold will crack the v groves in about a week sometimes but I don't replace them for a long while. Only until the cracks get into the cords.

Off hand I'd have to say something is out of allingment. Some pulley isn't set right and is tearing it up.

Oh yeah, welcome to FTE.

Hello OO

I'd have to agree with cr250 on the alignment problem. Have you had anything changed out b4 the belt shredding started (ie alternator/ac/water pump etc.?). If not you might also have a bearing thats starting to sieze up on any of those and also the idler pully or tensioner pully. If you can you might want to pull the belt off and hand check each pully by spinning them and push/pulling on them by hand to make sure there arent any issues with them. Just my 2cp. Hope this helps

My truck started eating belts this summer, it would take 1/4" strips off around the entire belt starting with the side closest to the motor. After 3 belts I replaced the tensioner assembly ... seems to have solved the problem so far.

My belt fell off twice when I hit a water puddle.

Then it shredded a little.

It turned out to be the tensioner assembly. $60 part. 15 minute replacement. 1 bolt.

Look down in there and see if it is crooked at all. I was able to tell rather easily.

Yep, it is typically the alignment of a pulley, you can order just the pulley but I opted to replace the whole assembly, not that expensive and pretty easy to install.

I replace an alternator, shredded a 1/4" off the edge of the belt. the pulley on the new alternator came with a thin 5 "groove" instead of the 7 "groove" pulleys

I had the same problem with a 95 PSD, turned out that the tensioner was WAY TOO TIGHT. Had Ford replace the tensioner and problem fixed.

I changed my water pump recently and after installation my belt began to shread for no seeming reason......... came to find out that the upper radiator hose clamp going into the water pump was positioned in such a way that it was making contact with the belt............ simply repositioned the clamp, problem solved.

I'm waiting for the part to come in, looking down at mine it is not straight, I'm surprised I havn't lost a belt yet. So there is just one bolt that holds it on???
